Resources, News, and Announcements

From the Mayor’s desk – 2/27/26

Happy Friday!

It has been a significant week in Surfside Beach government as our City Council voted to enter into negotiations to hire our first ever Village of Surfside Beach City Administrator.  A very big deal.

Human Resources:

First and foremost, as I mentioned above, earlier this week we selected a City Administrator candidate.  We had some great candidates brought to us by Clear Career Professionals and it was a difficult selection process for Council.  On Wednesday evening, they did approve a candidate, and it is with great pleasure that I can announce that William Cox was approved by Council to join us as our very first Village of Surfside Beach City Administrator.  There are some HR & Legal hurdles still to clear as we work to onboard Mr. Cox as soon as possible.  Once he joins us on the City Hall Staff, we will schedule a meet and great at Stahlman Park so everyone in the community can get to know Mr. Cox and help him become a part of Surfside.

Public Works:

From Erick and his team… Congratulations to William Cox.  We look forward to working with you and continuing to improve the Village for residents and tourists to enjoy work and vacation!

Emergency Management:

Ongoing efforts by Surfside Emergency Manager Frank DeMarco and Assistant Emergency Manager Chris McIntyre to prepare for upcoming storm season.  Please feel free to stop by or call our EMC leaders to learn more about current initiatives and long term preparedness goals.

Courts:

The warrant roundup is upon us.  If you or someone you know have any outstanding legal issues that need to be addressed, please visit our Court Clerk at City Hall to clear it up before it becomes more complicated and costly from the roundup.

EMS:

Preparations for beach season are underway.  An additional service coming this year will be a Surfside medical tent and beach response unit that will be located near the Yucca beach entrance.  Look for the red tent!  Our EMS professionals will be staffing the medical tent starting during the Spring Break period.  Our mission is to deliver timely, professional and compassionate emergency care while enhancing safety, reducing response times, and supporting a safe, family friendly beach environment.

Beach & Parks:

Road cleanup began this week by Brazoria County Roads to prepare for our large road project to overlay asphalt on 2 miles of roads in the Village.  This is an interlocal agreement between VOSB & the County to repair up to 2 miles of roads annually, where VOSB pays for material costs only.  We submitted our work request back in October to resurface the following roads:   The entirety of Ft. Velasco Drive, Thunder Drive between Monument & Surf, and the entirety of Starfish Street.  The actual road work to overlay asphalt is scheduled to be completed at the end of March.

In addition, there will be solely VOSB funded asphalt overlay to repair two intersections on Seashell Drive.  The intersection of Seashell & Texas Street and Seashell & Angel Wing Street will be resurfaced in the next 2 weeks.

Our beach booths will be operating this weekend to kick off the season.  Weekend staffing up to Memorial weekend and then we will operate 7 days a week from that point onwards.  We are still hiring beach booth employees who would qualify for the $500 seasonal bonus!  If interested, apply at City Hall.

Tourism:

I hope that you have seen the announcement on social media for the Surfside, Sunset, and Sound Market & Music Festival to be held near City Hall & the Timeline Fence, and will be kicking off our new outdoor stage.  Get ready for two days of coastal vibes, local talent, and family fun.  A free admission Market and Music Festival taking place March 20th & 21st.  Gates open at Noon, with festivities running until 8pm both days.  Lots of parking will be available at the Public Boat Ramp near the Coast Guard Station.  Open spaces for vendors and food trucks still exist, so hurry to contact David at tourism@surfsidetx.org to secure a spot.

Other items of interest:

St Patrick’s Day costume party will be held at Stahlman Park on Saturday evening.  Hope to see you there!

As always, I hope that you have a great day in wonderful Surfside Beach!

Thanks,

Zach
